Melanie K

I am an experienced and well-qualified teacher of English. I have 23 years experience as an English teacher and in that time I have taught across the age and ability range. I hold a BA in Literature (1st) and a B.Ed. in English Language and Literature.

I have almost 10 years experience as an AQA GCSE examiner and I examine both the Language and Literature papers. I have also been a Cambridge (CIE) IGCSE English Language examiner.

I have a strong track record of good exam results and can instil confidence in all students. I am a motivated, energetic and enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about literature and raising standards of literacy. I have taught the full range of abilities and have worked closely with SEN students with dyslexia and other barriers to learning. Within schools I have held a number of responsible posts: I have been a KS3 coordiator, a whole-school literacy coordinator and a SEN specialist.

I’m happy to have an introductory conversation about your needs, and I can tutor online or face to face. I look forward to meeting you and helping your child succeed.

Recently i have been working in FE supporting GCSE Resits and working with Looked After Children who are at risk of school failure or exclusion. I am also about to deliver a taught Master’s Course in English for Academic Purposes.

Client Review for Melanie: Fantastic tutor that really made the subject interesting and fun!! Melanie knew exactly what the GCSE markers wanted to read so her teaching was directed precisely in the way my daughter needed. Her predicted grades were a B and a 5, she received a A* and a 7. Perfect!!

Frequently Asked Questions

No, there is no minimum booking requirement.

However, we would recommend a minimum of 8 lessons to begin to see a real difference in your child’s ability.

We will contact you after the first lesson to see how everything went for you and your child.  If you have any doubts or concerns at all, this is your opportunity to tell us.  It is very rare that a child does not get on with a tutor, but if this is the case we will offer you another suitable tutor.  We currently have 70 tutors on our books from which to choose.

The short answer here is ‘yes’.  When we began to work online with younger children during the lockdown we were unsure how they would manage, but they are brilliant online.  As younger children are adaptable and very quick to learn new things, they have proven to be more adept and more natural online than many older children and adults.
